Bardzo miła i hojna osoba była na tyle dobra, że przetłumaczyła ten akt małżeństwa z rosyjskiego na angielski. Zastanawia mnie opis zmarłego ojca pana młodego jako "filistra". Czy ktoś wie, co w tym kontekście oznacza to słowo? Dziękuję za radę.K

It happened in the city of Warsaw on 17/29 November 1879 at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. We announce that –in the presence of the witnesses Marcelli Preser, a retiree, and Grzegorz [Jerzy] Krzysztofowicz, clerks of legal age, living in Warsaw– on this day a religious marital union was concluded between Jan Gladysz, 38 years old, widower of his late wife Józefa née Rogujska [Rogójska] deceased in 1876 in the village of Ulów, Radom governorate, [> groom] a landlord, born in the posad of Praszka, Kalisz governorate, son of the late Kacper Gładysz, a philistine, and the still living Emilia née Szumlańska, the lawful spouses Gładysz, permanent residents of the village of Ulów, Klwów parish, Radom governorate, and Waleria Tryniszewska, widow of her late husband Aleksander Tryniszewski deceased in 1876 here in this parish in Warsaw, [> bride] daughter of Marcin Żelieziński, a philistine, and the late Karolina née Bek, lawful spouses, born in the village of Długosiodło, Płock governorate, 40 years old, house-owner, permanently residing in Warsaw at Podwale street #519 in St. John's parish.
This wedding was preceded by only one announcement [of the banns] published in the parish churches of Klwów and of St. John in Warsaw on 23 November this year. Exemption from the other 2 announcements was granted by the Sandomierz diocese and the Warsaw Consistory. The newlyweds stated that they did not conclude a prenuptial agreement. The religious ceremony of the wedding was performed by Us, the undersigned officiating superior of this parish. This act was read aloud to those present and then signed by Us and them.
